WASHINGTON, DCToday,Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29) and Congressman Al Green (TX-9) wrote to the Houston USPS District Manager and Postmaster seeking answers about claims that over 20 Greater Houston-area post offices rejected donations of blank voter registration ballots from the League of Women Voters, a non-partisan civic engagement group:

"Members of the Houston region League of Women Voters, and constituents of mine, reached out to inform me that several Houston area post offices were refusing their donations of blank, self-serve voter registration applications," said Congresswoman Garcia.

"It also came to my attention that the USPS Regional Office in Houston sent a directive advising post offices in their jurisdiction to refuse donations of blank voter registration cards. Congressman Green and I would like to know about the content of this directive, as well as on what grounds this was issued."

Congresswoman Garcia concluded, "As government offices, Houston USPS locations should have blank voter registration applications, which are non-partisan government forms, available to post office customers at all times. Furthermore, the Harris County Tax Assessor directs residents to post offices, among other locations, to pick up voter registration applications. It is important that our local post offices provide government forms, including voter registration applications, to people of the Houston community to ensure that all eligible voters can exercise their right to vote in our elections."
