Houston, TX - Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) announced that William P. Hobby Airport was awarded nearly $50.9 million under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The CARES Act was signed into law on March 27, 2020, and it includes $10 billion in emergency funds to be awarded as economic relief to save our nation's airports and their employees.
This funding will support continuing operations and replace lost revenue resulting from the sharp decline in passenger traffic and other airport business due to the COVID-19 public health emergency. The funds are available for airport capital expenditures, airport operating expenses including payroll and utilities, and airport debt payments.
"I am thrilled that Hobby Airport will receive nearly $50.9 million in relief funding through the CARES Act," Congresswoman Garcia stated. "Hobby airport is a major economic driver for my Congressional District and the Houston region and it is important that it can continue to work on critical safety and capacity projects. This will ensure that Hobby airport can continue to help drive our economy once our region and country starts to fully recover from the health and economic impacts of COVID-19," Congresswoman Garcia concluded.
