Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29) Votes on Critical Funding Bill for Government Operations

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia voted for first appropriations minibus bill, H.R. 2740. This important bill provides a total $982.8 billion in essential government funding and consists of the Fiscal Year 2020 Labor-Health and Human Services, Education, Defense, State-Foreign Operations, and Energy and Water Development spending bills.

"I am proud to be a part of this Congress, which has done the hard work for the people to keep our government open and operating, said Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia. "My colleagues and I have stepped up to fight the reckless budget cuts to key items like health care and education that the Trump Administration has sought every step of the way, preventing unnecessary harm to our families and our communities. I look forward to continuing our work for the people to finish the job."

In total, the package provides:

• $645.1 billion in base defense funding;

• $261.7 billion in base nondefense funding;

• $68.1 billion for defense Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO); and

• $8 billion for nondefense OCO

Other key amendments voted on for this bill include a measure to block the Trump Administration's transgender ban for military service and critical funding to support democracy and the rule of law for the people of Venezuela
